A new window to MAPA: A virtual tour through the collection is a platform that seeks to showcase part of the patrimonial collection housed by the American Folk Art Museum through the presentation of selected pieces from the collection recorded in a 360° visual format.

The MAPA collection has more than 7600 pieces from countries in the Americas, but also from other latitudes of the world. In this case, the pieces exhibited in this platform provide an overview of artistic and cultural production from different localities and artists of the Americas. The selection process, at first, was marked by the material conditions of the objects: three-dimensional objects were prioritized over two-dimensional ones, which can be more easily recorded through photography. Secondly, we tried to collect the greatest diversity of materials, which as you can see, includes pottery, textiles, baskestry, carving, beadwork, saddlery, metal, imagery, glass, lithic and papier-mâché. In addition to the identification of countries of origin and cultural affiliations, a criterion that was kept in mind was the selection of pieces that have been exhibited only a few times in order to broaden the public’s knowledge of MAPA collection
